About This Video
This specialized barre class is designed specifically to address the unique physical demands of male ballet technique. While the fundamental principles of ballet remain consistent across all styles, men's training often emphasizes explosive power, speed, and upper body stability—all of which are crucial for executing virtuosic jumps and turns. In this 44-minute session at Broche Ballet, we focus on building the foundational strength required for these athletic feats through rigorous exercises.
The class begins with a comprehensive warm-up featuring grands pliés and deep stretches to prepare the muscles and joints for the work ahead. As we move through the traditional barre sequence, you will engage in numerous relevés and powerful pliés, designed to build the spring necessary for high elevations in petite and grand allegro. We pay close attention to fondu exercises, emphasizing the controlled melting action that builds eccentric strength in the supporting leg.
Precision is a key theme throughout this session. We delve into tendus and dégagés with a focus on sharp, clean footwork, which translates directly to the speed needed in complex combinations. The instructor provides constant cues regarding alignment, emphasizing the importance of keeping the shoulders down and the hips tall to maintain a stable core.
This stability is essential for the upper body strength required in male dancing, particularly for maintaining form during powerful rotations. The latter part of the class introduces more demanding movements, including arabesques and exercises in big second positions. We explore how to hold positions with strength and grace, ensuring the hip doesn't pull forward and the alignment remains impeccable.
The session concludes with a cool-down featuring grands pliés and sustained arabesques, allowing you to find balance and length. Join us to refine your technique and build the power needed for your next performance.
