About This Video
Step into the studio with Broche Ballet for a specialized barre session designed to channel the strength, athleticism, and vigor of a traditional men’s class. While 'Men’s Barre' refers to a specific pedagogical approach often focused on elevation and bravura, this class is open to dancers of all genders who wish to cultivate explosive power in their jumps, lightning-fast footwork, and a commanding upper-body presence. Over the course of nearly 46 minutes, our instructor guides you through a rigorous series of exercises that bridge the gap between technical precision and athletic performance.
The class begins with a focus on deep pliés and grand pliés, emphasizing the elastic strength in the Achilles and calves necessary for high-flying jumps. We transition into tendu and dégagé sequences that prioritize speed and sharp articulation, training the feet to move with the clarity required for complex allegro work. A significant portion of this barre is dedicated to the fondu. In this context, the 'melting' action of the fondu serves as a vital leg-strengthening tool, building the controlled descent and stability required for secure landings and powerful pirouettes.
Upper body carriage, or port de bras, is treated with particular attention. You will learn to engage your 'grand bras' to frame your movements with strength, using the back and shoulders to maintain balance during vigorous battement exercises. We also explore the passé and retiré positions, focusing on core engagement to provide a rock-solid foundation for turns. Throughout the lesson, our instructor provides detailed corrections on alignment and musicality, ensuring you understand the 'why' behind every movement. By the end of this session, you will feel more grounded, powerful, and prepared to tackle the elevation of jumps and the speed of turns with newfound confidence and grace.
