About This Video
Elevate your training with this specialized Men's Style Ballet Barre class at Broche Ballet. While designed in the style of a traditional men’s class, this session is open to all dancers who want to cultivate more power, speed, and precision in their movements. Traditionally, men's ballet classes focus on the explosive strength required for high jumps, multiple turns, and powerful leg extensions.
This 41-minute practice takes those principles and applies them to a comprehensive barre workout that will challenge your stamina and refine your technique. Throughout the class, we dive deep into movement and body control. A primary focus is on the fondu and landing techniques.
Instead of merely focusing on the height of the leg, our instructor emphasizes the quality of the descent. Learning to land smoothly and with control is essential for building the muscle memory needed for safe and impressive grand allegro. You will learn to use your plié as a shock absorber, ensuring every movement is as graceful as it is powerful.
Another unique aspect of this class is the focus on upper body positioning. We often hear about the feet and legs, but here we emphasize using the armpits to control the torso. By keeping the armpits down and the shoulders wide, you create a stable frame that supports the legs.
This is particularly vital during adagio and grand battement exercises, where a shifting spine can lead to a loss of balance. By lifting through the belly button and maintaining a quiet upper body, you free your legs to move with greater range and speed. Finally, we incorporate specific turning drills to build the leg strength and rotational alignment required for center work.
Whether you are preparing for your first pirouette or looking to add more rotations to your repertoire, these barre exercises provide the necessary foundation. Join us at Broche Ballet to transform your practice into a powerhouse of athleticism and artistry.
