About This Video
Transitioning from the barre to the center can be one of the most intimidating milestones in a dancer’s pointe journey. At Broche Ballet, we believe this transition should be an inviting process of discovery rather than a source of stress. In this "Venturing Off the Barre" class, we shift the focus from rigid perfection to exploratory play.
By treating your center practice as an opportunity to explore and play, you build the somatic awareness and confidence needed to master dancing en pointe without support. This session guides you through essential foundational movements in the center. We begin by revisiting the mechanics of the tendu and temps lié, focusing on how your weight shifts between your feet while maintaining the integrity of your alignment.
You will learn to manage the technical aspects of climbing up into your shoes using a scoop or a clean relevé. These movements are vital for developing the strength to hold your center once the barre is gone. A key component of this class is practicing the sous-sus.
You will explore transferring weight from foot to foot and finding your position even when facing away from your starting point. We also cover practical techniques for coming down from pointe with grace and control, ensuring your descents are as strong as your ascents. Throughout the exercises, including relevé and arabesque balance work, we emphasize keeping the back forward and the core fully engaged.
Remember, it is perfectly normal to stumble as you find your equilibrium off the barre. As long as you are not in pain, these moments of instability are actually valuable learning opportunities. By staying calm and enjoying the process, you will find that your pointe work becomes more fluid and expressive.
Join us at Broche Ballet to transform your center work from a challenge into a joyful exploration of movement.
