About This Video
In this 36-minute intensive practice from Broche Ballet, we dive into the dual challenge of speed and lyricism en pointe. This class is designed to push your technique by increasing the tempo of traditional barre exercises, forcing a more reactive and engaged core. We begin with a series of quick transitions, focusing on the mechanics of the chassé and the fluidity of the cambré.
One of the core focuses of this session is the temps lié. Executing a temps lié roll over the top of the pointe shoe requires precise control and strength in the metatarsals. You will learn to brush the foot with intention while maintaining a straight knee and a supported turnout.
As we move through the speed barre, we also tackle the grand rond de jambe and échappé, emphasizing the 'pull up' required to stay secure on your platform. The second half of the class transitions into a lovely adagio section. Here, the focus shifts from speed to sustainability.
You will practice développé combinations to the front, side, and back, learning how to hold your extensions without losing your alignment. We pay special attention to the promenade, where micro-adjustments in the standing foot are key to a smooth rotation. Throughout the routine, our instructor emphasizes the importance of starting each movement with proper alignment at the barre.
Whether you are balancing in a sous-sus or extending into a high arabesque, the goal is to maintain a lifted upper body and a tucked demi-pointe where applicable. By practicing these balance challenges, you will develop the stability needed for professional-level execution. The inclusion of planks and specific stretches ensures your body is primed for the physical demands of pointe work.
