About This Video
Refining a classical variation is a journey of precision and persistence. In this Broche Ballet practice session, we focus on the ethereal Talisman variation, performed en pointe at a 75% tempo. Slowing down the music is one of the most effective ways to build muscle memory, ensuring that every battu is crisp and every relevé is secure.
This video is designed for dancers who have already learned the choreography and are ready to polish the finer technical details of their performance in a controlled environment. The session begins with the characteristic entry sequence, including a sous-sus and sharp flicks. One of the primary technical challenges in the Talisman variation is the repetitive battu work.
By practicing at this moderate speed, you can ensure your feet are fully crossing and stretching through the tips of your pointe shoes without rushing the rhythm. We then transition into the more expansive movements of the variation, focusing on the fluidity of the chassé into a deep lunge, followed by a sustained and stable arabesque. Stability is key during the turning sequences.
We will work through the turn and the subsequent step-over into a relevé arabesque, emphasizing the lift through the core and the placement of the standing leg. The sequence also incorporates attitude positions where we focus on the specific timing of the lift. Finally, we tackle the piqué steps.
Navigating the piqué sequence requires intense spatial awareness as we move to the left, back, side, and along the diagonal. Following the cue for good MBA to step forward, walking through these directions at a reduced speed allows you to find your center and maintain your turnout throughout the entire traveling phrase. Whether you are preparing for a performance or simply want to improve your pointe work, this practice session provides the structure needed to elevate your artistry.
