About This Video
Welcome to your first step into the world of classical dance with Broche Ballet. This class is designed specifically for the absolute beginner, focusing on the foundational movements that form the backbone of all ballet technique: the plié and the tendu. Whether you are fulfilling a childhood dream or looking for a new way to stay active, this guided session provides a supportive environment to learn the basics correctly from day one.
We begin at the barre, where you will learn the essential importance of posture and alignment. Discover how to find your center, relax your shoulders, and lengthen your spine to create the elegant silhouette characteristic of a dancer. We introduce first and second positions of the feet, providing a stable base for your first exercises.
The instructor guides you through the demi-plié and grand plié, emphasizing the melting quality of the movement and the proper tracking of the knees over the toes to ensure joint safety and strength. Next, we dive into the tendu. A tendu is much more than just sliding your foot; it is about articulating through the floor, strengthening the arches, and maintaining your turn-out from the hip.
You will practice moving through the foot to a fully pointed toe, ensuring a crisp and controlled return to position. We also introduce basic port de bras and movements like allongé to help you coordinate your upper body with your footwork. You will also learn the sous-sus, a tight position on the balls of the feet, and the cambré, a graceful lean of the body.
Throughout this 40-minute session, the focus remains on slow, deliberate practice. Repetition is key in ballet, and this class offers plenty of opportunities to refine your form with professional corrections. By the end of this class, you will have a solid understanding of basic barre structure and the confidence to continue your ballet education.
