About This Video
Welcome back to the studio for the fourth installment of our Absolute Beginner Ballet Barre series at Broche Ballet. In this comprehensive 41-minute session, we dive deeper into the nuances of classical technique, focusing on the essential coordination between the lower body and the arms (port de bras). This class is designed to help you transition from basic movements to the more complex requirements of the barre.
We begin by introducing the retiré position, a fundamental shape used in everything from passé to pirouettes. You will learn the precise mechanics of drawing the foot up the leg, ensuring the heel pushes forward to maintain proper turnout while the toe finds its home just beneath the inside of the kneecap. Proper alignment and articulation are key here, as we emphasize the control needed to balance on demi-pointe.
The class also explores fondu coordination. Often described as a melting movement, fondu requires a harmonious relationship between the working leg and the supporting leg. We add another layer of complexity by integrating arm movements, helping you develop the coordination needed to multitask at the barre.
This foundation is vital for building the strength required for développé, which we will introduce in future sessions. Throughout the class, we focus on cou-de-pied positions and ensure that your footwork is clean and intentional. Whether you are practicing in a home studio or a professional space, Broche Ballet provides the detailed guidance necessary to master these intricate steps.
