About This Video
Welcome to the fourth installment of the Broche Ballet Absolute Beginner Center series. In this 26-minute session, we bridge the gap between stationary barre work and the fluid movements of center practice. This class is specifically designed to help novice dancers find their equilibrium and confidence when they no longer have the support of the barre.
Our primary focus today is the mechanics of the pivot—a fundamental skill that allows a dancer to change directions seamlessly while maintaining proper alignment and turnout. You will learn how to pick up the heel just enough to rotate on the ball of the foot, ensuring that your upper body remains quiet and your core stays engaged. Beyond pivoting, we delve into the intricate footwork of the pas de cheval and coup-de-pied.
These 'steps of the horse' and 'neck of the foot' movements are essential for developing the articulation and speed required for more advanced ballet combinations. We also practice the fondu, or melting movement, which is the key to achieving soft landings and elastic jumps. Throughout the class, we combine these elements into a sequence that includes tendu à la seconde, arabesque, and the tombé.
The tombé, or falling step, teaches you how to shift your weight dynamically from one leg to another without losing your center of gravity. At Broche Ballet, we believe that technique is the foundation of artistry. By breaking down these movements, you can focus on the 'why' behind each step, ensuring your transitions are as smooth as they are technically sound.
Whether you are practicing in a home studio or a living room, this class provides the professional guidance you need to feel like a true dancer. Prepare to challenge your balance, refine your footwork, and master the art of the pivot in a supportive, step-by-step environment.
