About This Video
Welcome to the second installment of our Absolute Beginner Ballet center series at Broche Ballet. Moving away from the safety of the barre is one of the most exciting and challenging transitions for any new dancer. This 24-minute practice session is specifically designed to help you find your "center," teaching you how to maintain stability and grace using your own internal alignment.
In this class, we dive deep into the mechanics of balance. We begin by establishing a strong postural foundation, ensuring your weight is correctly distributed over your feet. You will learn the importance of keeping your head centered over your standing foot—a crucial technique for maintaining stability during transitions.
We explore fundamental movements such as tendu and coup-de-pied, focusing on the precision of the footwork while the upper body remains calm and poised. As we progress through the lesson, we introduce more complex center exercises involving passé and développé. These movements require a combination of core strength and flexibility.
We will also practice positions in croisé, helping you understand how to angle your body relative to the audience for a more professional and aesthetic line. Our instructor provides step-by-step guidance on executing a smooth fondu (meaning "to melt") and transitioning into a tombé, ensuring you understand the weight transfer necessary for fluid movement across the floor. Artistry is just as important as technique.
Throughout the class, we emphasize the use of port de bras and allongé. You will learn how to coordinate your arm movements with your footwork to create a cohesive and expressive dance. We conclude the session with a traditional pas de bourrée sequence and a final bow, leaving you with a sense of accomplishment.
Whether you are practicing in a home studio or a living room, this class provides the tools you need to build confidence in your center work. Master the art of balance and refine your technique with Broche Ballet.
