About This Video
In this comprehensive center class at Broche Ballet, we dive deep into the mechanics of balance. Moving away from the support of the barre is a pivotal moment for any dancer, and these balancing drills are designed to bridge that gap with confidence. We begin in first position, establishing a solid foundation before rising to a high demi-pointe.
The focus is on maintaining a long, stretched line through the feet and ankles while engaging the core to find your center of gravity. As we progress, we challenge that stability by introducing dynamic movements. You will practice lifting and lowering the arms through various positions, learning how port de bras affects your equilibrium.
To further test your control, the class incorporates head movements—looking up, down, and side to side—which challenges the vestibular system and forces the body to find stability through internal engagement rather than just visual spotting. The lesson also covers essential center transitions and positions. You will work through exercises involving the passé and attitude positions, as well as the classic arabesque.
We focus on the precision of weight transfers, including the tombé, pas de bourrée, and the piqué sus-sous. These movements are fundamental for jumping preparation and fluidity in center allegro. By focusing on the timing and rhythm of each relevé and plié, you will learn to harness your power and control, preventing the common wobble that occurs during transitions.
Throughout the session, our instructor emphasizes the importance of a tight body—meaning an active, engaged muscular state—that allows for micro-adjustments in real-time. Whether you are working on a simple balance in first position or a complex piqué sequence, these drills will provide you with the tools to feel grounded and secure in your center work. Join us to build the strength and mindfulness required for beautiful, stable ballet technique.
