About This Video
Taking your pointe work to the center is a significant milestone for any intermediate dancer. In this 15-minute practice session with Broche Ballet, we transition away from the barre to focus on core stability, balance, and technical precision. Set to the lyrical and evocative music of Frédéric Chopin, this class guides you through a series of exercises designed to build confidence en pointe in an open space.
The session begins with foundational movements adapted for the center. You will work through fondu and tendu sequences, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong turnout and square hips without the physical support of a barre. The instructor provides detailed feedback on how to achieve a crisp coupé and controlled relevé positions.
One of the primary focuses of this class is the "pull up" sensation—essential for finding your center of gravity during transitions. As the class progresses, we move into more dynamic movements, including pirouettes and turns. You will learn the mechanics of a front turn, focusing on pulling up underneath yourself into a tight sous-sus or passé.
The instructor breaks down the transition from a plié preparation into the turn, ensuring you maintain alignment throughout the rotation. Artistry and musicality are also key components of this practice. Through arabesque sequences and jeté movements, you will learn to coordinate your arm paths, moving through a low fifth into an elongated line.
The session emphasizes the connection between the feet and the upper body, helping you achieve a fluid, professional look. Whether you are working on your fourth pirouette or seeking to improve your control during a pas de bourrée, this class offers the corrections needed to elevate your technique. By the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how to balance strength with grace.
