About This Video
Welcome to a foundational training session at Broche Ballet, where we focus on the essential building blocks of classical dance. This comprehensive 60-minute beginner barre class is meticulously designed to help dancers find their center and build the confidence necessary to eventually move away from the barre. Lead by Julie, this session emphasizes the relationship between technical precision and physical balance, ensuring you develop the core strength needed for more advanced movements.
The class structure follows a traditional progression, starting with grounding exercises like tendu to prepare the stomach and shoulders. From there, we move into more dynamic movements including dégagé and développé. Julie guides you through the correct path of the bras, ensuring that every arm movement supports your stability rather than hindering it.
One of the unique aspects of this class is the focus on risk-taking. You will be encouraged to gradually let go of the barre during challenging sequences, such as arabesque or sustained développé. This practice of release is vital for developing the internal control required for center work.
We will explore movements en croix—to the front, side, and back—to ensure a balanced workout for the entire body. By the end of the hour, we culminate in grand battement, adding a layer of power and height to your technique while maintaining the same rigorous alignment established during the slower exercises. Whether you are a dedicated adult beginner or a dancer looking to refine your foundational stability, this class offers a supportive yet challenging environment to grow your practice.
Broche Ballet is committed to providing high-quality instruction that respects the tradition of ballet while making it accessible for modern adult learners. Join us at the barre and discover the strength and poise that comes from a focused, balanced practice.
