About This Video
Welcome to this comprehensive 46-minute beginner ballet barre class with Broche Ballet. This session is specifically designed to bridge the gap between basic movements and complex coordination, focusing heavily on the mechanics of the grand battement. Often, beginners struggle with the height of the leg, but in this class, we shift the focus to what happens on the floor to generate power and stability.
" You will learn how to generate power not by swinging the leg, but by pushing down through the heel of the working leg before it leaves the floor. This technique creates a spring-like action that allows for higher, more controlled movements while maintaining alignment in the standing leg. We emphasize the importance of keeping the heel in contact with the ground until the very last second to ensure proper muscle engagement.
Throughout the barre, we will work en croix, practicing these movements to the front, side, and back. Beyond the grand battement, this class introduces fun coordination challenges that will test your balance and help you develop the muscle memory needed for more advanced center work. You will learn how to manage your weight placement while performing quick dégagé and tendu combinations.
At Broche Ballet, we believe that a strong foundation is the key to beautiful dancing. By slowing down the movements and focusing on the pressure and release within the legs, you will build the functional strength required for more advanced levels. Whether you are practicing in a professional studio or at home, this class provides the technical cues you need to feel more confident and graceful in your practice.
