About This Video
Welcome to a comprehensive beginner center practice at Broche Ballet. Transitioning from the barre to the center is a pivotal moment in any dancer's journey, requiring newfound core stability and spatial awareness. This 35-minute session is designed to bridge that gap, offering a well-rounded curriculum that touches on every essential element of center work.
We begin with foundational movements to establish your center of gravity. You will work through pliés and sous-sus to find your vertical alignment without the support of the barre. The class then moves into more complex coordination with ronds de jambe, focusing on maintaining a stable turnout while the working leg draws precise semicircles on the floor.
A significant portion of this class is dedicated to mastering the pas de bourrée. Our instructor breaks down this fundamental transition step, emphasizing the importance of keeping the steps small and close to the body. You will learn how to transition smoothly into cou-de-pied positions, focusing on quick footwork and precise weight placement to maintain your balance.
By practicing the step-over technique and keeping your movements compact, you will gain the control needed for faster combinations later in your training. The session also introduces allegro movements to build stamina and coordination. You will learn to manage spacing and direction while performing jumps and traveling steps.
The instructor provides constant feedback on arm placement—including allongé lines—and head positions to ensure a polished, professional look. We conclude with a graceful combination that incorporates everything you have learned, finishing with a traditional grand finale of arm sweeps and a révérence. Whether you are practicing in a studio or a home space, this class provides the technical corrections and encouraging environment you need to progress.
