About This Video
Refine your foundational skills with this comprehensive Beginner Ballet Barre class at Broche Ballet. This 42-minute session is designed specifically for dancers who want to move beyond just doing the steps and start mastering the artistry and technical precision that defines classical dance. We place a significant emphasis on the integration of expressive port de bras with fundamental leg movements, ensuring your upper body looks as graceful as your footwork is strong.
The class begins with a focus on arm placement. You will learn to lead your port de bras from the upper arm rather than the wrist. This subtle technical adjustment is the key to maintaining a supported elbow and a long, classical line.
As we move through the traditional barre sequence—including demi-plié, grand plié, tendu, and dégagé—you will be encouraged to find coordination between your head, arms, and legs. ' We dive deep into how to use the floor as resistance during tendus and ronds de jambe. By maintaining contact with the ground for as long as possible before the foot leaves the floor, you will develop the strength required for a sharp, articulate 'flick' of the toes.
This articulation is essential for more advanced movements like petit allegro. We also tackle vertical alignment and core stability. During grand pliés, you will be guided to imagine your back sliding down a wall, keeping your hips stacked directly over your heels to avoid leaning forward.
As the class progresses into frappé, fondu, and grand battement, we emphasize keeping the glutes engaged to stay centered over your feet during every relevé. Whether you are a total beginner or an experienced dancer looking to clean up your technique, this session provides the building blocks for a stable and beautiful ballet practice.
