About This Video
Welcome to week 13 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe 16-week program. As we enter the final month of this cohort, our focus shifts toward the sophisticated integration of strength and fluidity. This 30-minute session is specifically designed to bridge the gap between static barre exercises and the dynamic control required for center work. We dive deep into two essential elements of pointe work: the controlled descent of the plié en pointe and the rhythmic precision of the piqué ballonné.
The class begins with a comprehensive warm-up aimed at loosening the feet and ankles. You will work through foundational movements such as dégagé and passé to establish the proper turnout and rotation needed before rising. A significant portion of the lesson is dedicated to the mechanics of the plié en pointe. Unlike a standard plié on flat or demi-pointe, performing this movement en pointe requires immense ankle stability and core engagement to prevent the heels from dropping prematurely or the ankles from wobbling.
Following the technical breakdown, we move into more complex adagio combinations. You will practice transitions using tombé and bourrée, focusing on maintaining a seamless line and graceful port de bras. The introduction of the piqué ballonné adds a layer of coordination, challenging you to find your balance quickly on a stable supporting leg while maintaining a light, springy quality in the working foot. To wrap up the session, we perform essential calf stretches and ankle strengthening exercises to aid in recovery and build the muscular endurance necessary for safe pointe practice. Throughout the class, our Broche Ballet instructors provide detailed corrections to ensure you are developing the correct habits for long-term progress.
