About This Video
Welcome to Week 6 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we approach the middle of this 16-week journey, we transition from foundational strength-building at the barre to more intricate footwork patterns that define classical ballet. This session is dedicated to mastering the pas de bourrée, a fundamental stepping movement that requires coordination, turnout, and precise weight placement when performed en pointe.
The class begins with essential conditioning exercises designed to warm up the intrinsic muscles of the feet. You will work through a series of tendu and dégagé to ensure the ankles are ready for the demands of the box. A significant portion of this lesson focuses on the relationship between the plié and the relevé.
Our instructor emphasizes the importance of pressing the heels into the floor during every plié—this not only prevents injury but also provides the necessary power for a clean rise to pointe. We then dive deep into the mechanics of the pas de bourrée. When dancing en pointe, this movement must be sharp and contained.
You will learn how to maintain a tight sou-sou position while navigating the three-step sequence, ensuring that your weight remains centered and your alignment stays vertical. Proper turnout is key here; keeping the hips open allows for the quick, crossing motions that make the pas de bourrée look effortless. Safety is paramount at Broche Ballet.
As noted in our program guidelines, you should only perform these exercises en pointe if you have received direct approval from a qualified ballet teacher. For those ready to progress, this Week 6 class offers a perfect blend of technical drill and artistic expression. By the end of this session, you will feel more confident in your ability to transition between positions, building the endurance and technical proficiency needed for the remainder of the 16-week program.
Join us as we refine your technique and bring your pointe work to the next level.
