About This Video
Welcome to Week 6 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we approach the midpoint of our journey, this class focuses on the transition from static positions to fluid movement, specifically through the introduction of the pas de bourrée. This fundamental step is essential for traveling across the floor and requires a combination of precision, timing, and foot strength.
We begin the session with a focused review of foot placement within your pointe shoes. Understanding how to isolate and flex the toes—what we call the 'flexing action'—is key to achieving the necessary articulation for more complex movements. This action not only prepares the feet for the lifting required in traveling steps but also serves as an excellent stretch for the Achilles tendon.
Maintaining a 'soft' Achilles and long toes ensures you are not gripping the shoe, allowing for a more aesthetic and functional line. Throughout the class, we emphasize the importance of hip alignment. Students will practice keeping the hips stable and centered over the calves, particularly during relevés in seconde position.
This stability prevents unnecessary side-to-side swaying, which can compromise balance when you are en pointe. To build the necessary endurance for full combinations, the lesson concludes with a stamina-building exercise: 12 controlled relevés on both legs. By focusing on these technical foundations, you will gain the control needed to float through your footwork with ease.
Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and build the confidence to dance en pointe with grace and strength.
