About This Video
Welcome to Week 15 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe program. As we approach the end of this comprehensive cohort, our focus shifts toward refining intricate footwork and building the speed necessary for center work. This session is specifically designed to bridge the gap between slow, controlled barre exercises and the fluid, rapid movements required for professional-looking pointe work.
The primary focus of this class is the mechanics and execution of bourrées. While many students attempt to initiate this movement from the knees, we dive deep into the technical requirement of moving from the ankles. By keeping the knees fully stretched, you will learn how to create that iconic shimmering effect on pointe.
We break down the weight shift, the opposition of the front and back ankles, and how to maintain a tight fifth position throughout the movement. In addition to bourrées, this class covers piqué sous-sus movements, emphasizing stability and vertical alignment. We also incorporate adagio exercises to help you find balance and length, ensuring that your transition into faster footwork does not come at the expense of grace or form.
We will practice these movements on both flat shoes and in pointe shoes to ensure the muscle memory is correctly established before adding the challenge of the platform. Throughout the lesson, our Broche Ballet instructor provides real-time corrections on footwork and ankle mobility. We conclude with a focused stretching session to release the calves and maintain the flexibility needed for a deep plié and high relevé.
This class is an essential step for any beginner student looking to move with more confidence and agility en pointe.
