About This Video
Welcome to Week 15 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we approach the final stages of this 16-week program, our focus shifts toward the refinement of weight transfers and strengthening the articulation of the feet while en pointe. This session is specifically designed to bridge the gap between static barre work and the fluid movements required for center practice.
In this class, you will dive deep into the mechanics of the piqué sous-sus. Mastering this step requires a delicate balance of precision and strength; you will learn how to push off the floor effectively to find your balance instantly on the platform of the shoe. We also explore more complex combinations involving the tombé, ballonné, and pas de bourrée.
These steps are essential for building the stamina needed to sustain longer sequences. A significant portion of the lesson is dedicated to the échappé (often phonetically referred to as "Aisha Pay"). We focus on landing forward and ensuring that the hips remain aligned during the transition from a closed to an open position.
You will also practice the développé, which challenges your core stability and leg control. Throughout the exercises, your instructor emphasizes the importance of keeping the foot active and strong inside the shoe—never "collapsing" or letting the toes go soft—particularly during bourrée steps. To conclude the practice, we transition into a series of targeted stretching exercises.
Stretching is vital after pointe work to prevent injury and release tension in the intrinsic muscles of the feet and the calves. You will learn how to safely stretch over the shoes and relax the feet in parallel, ensuring you finish your session feeling lengthened and refreshed. Join us at Broche Ballet to elevate your technique and gain the confidence to dance en pointe with grace and power.
