About This Video
Welcome to the eighth week of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe 16-week program! This milestone class focuses on refining your footwork and building the essential strength required for stable, elegant movement en pointe. As we reach the halfway point of the cohort, the curriculum introduces more complex transitions and demands greater control from your ankles and core.
In today’s session, we dive deep into the scooping action of the sous-sus. This fundamental movement requires a precise draw of the feet together under the center of the body. You will practice the plié sous-sus transition, learning how to use the floor to scoop into a tight fifth position.
This action is critical for developing the speed and security needed for more advanced center work later in your training. We also introduce the scooping sous-sus followed by a dégagé, challenging your ability to maintain alignment while shifting weight. Another key focus of this class is the relevé coupé.
We explore a combination that integrates dégagé, coupé, and passé movements. The instructor emphasizes the importance of placing the heel to the big toe corner of the foot during the coupé action, ensuring a clean and technically sound position. By focusing on these intricate movements, you will build the stamina and stability necessary to sustain longer sequences at the barre.
Throughout the lesson, you will also practice pas de bourrée, tombé, and pas de cheval. These exercises are designed to improve your foot articulation and weight transfer. The class concludes with a restorative foot stretch, where you will learn to relax your toes and let the pointe shoe support your arch and ankle.
We emphasize pulling up through the calves and firming the standing leg to prevent sitting into the shoe. This class provides the technical foundation every beginner pointe student needs.
