About This Video
Welcome to week eight of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we reach the halfway mark of this 16-week program, we shift our focus toward more intricate footwork and the foundational "scooping" action required for fluid transitions. This session is specifically designed to bridge the gap between static barre work and the dynamic movements needed for center practice.
In this class, we dive deep into the mechanics of the scooping sous-sus. Unlike a direct rise, the scooping action emphasizes the articulation of the metatarsals and the strength of the intrinsic foot muscles. By mastering this movement, you develop the control necessary to move through the box of the pointe shoe with grace and precision.
We also introduce the rélevé to coupé movement, a vital step for building stability on one leg. You will learn how to roll down through the foot while maintaining a strong turnout and a high coupé position. Our curriculum today includes a comprehensive series of exercises featuring tombé and pas de bourrée.
These combinations are essential for developing the stamina required for longer variations. We focus on the "breaking of the box" to the three-quarter point, ensuring that every transition is supported by proper alignment. The instructor provides detailed feedback on how to drag the foot into a tombé without losing the integrity of the supporting leg.
Furthermore, we explore bourrée movements and the importance of specific foot flexes to prepare for pointe work. Flexing the feet during floor exercises helps maintain flexibility in the ankles and strengthens the arches. We conclude the session with adagio exercises and essential stretches for the Achilles.
Whether you are practicing at home or in a studio, this class will help you coalesce these technical elements into your muscle memory, providing the foundation for advanced pointe work in the weeks to come.
