About This Video
Welcome to the eighth week of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. Reaching the halfway point of this 16-week program is a significant milestone, and today’s class focuses on refining the intricate mechanics of footwork that transition you from the floor to the tips of your shoes. This session is designed to deepen your understanding of how to use the floor as a tool for both resistance and power, ensuring your movements are as safe as they are beautiful.
Our primary focus today is the 'scooping' motion essential for a clean sous-sus. We explore the sensation of pulling the feet together with a flicking motion, which allows for a stable and controlled landing in demi-pointe. You will feel your shin muscles engaging as we practice scuffing the floor, a vital technique for building the necessary strength to support your ankles en pointe.
In addition to sous-sus, we introduce the relevé coupé de pied. This movement requires precise coordination and a strong sense of balance on one leg. To prepare for these technical challenges, we incorporate a series of demi-plié and rocking side-to-side exercises.
these drills help develop the lateral stability and ankle flexibility required for advanced work. We also dedicate time to stretching the ankles and hip flexors, using tendu variations to ensure the legs are warm and the joints are mobile. Throughout the class, we emphasize the 'scoop' and the resistance against the floor when coming down from pointe.
This resistance is key to preventing injuries and developing a professional quality of movement. By focusing on the corner of the big toe during stretches and maintaining a straight alignment in the supporting leg, you will cultivate the discipline needed for the remainder of this cohort. Join us for this technical deep-dive and continue building the foundation for your ballet journey.
