About This Video
Welcome to Week 9 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we cross the halfway mark of this comprehensive 16-week program, we shift our focus toward increased control, ankle stability, and technical precision. This session dives deeper into the nuanced scoop action within the sous-sus movement, building upon the foundations laid in previous weeks.
In this class, you will refine how you use your toes to find the platform of your pointe shoes quickly and efficiently. The instructor emphasizes the flicking action of the toes to ensure the shoes move directly under your center of gravity and back out again with grace. Mastering this scooping motion is vital for achieving stability and avoiding knuckling or falling behind your shoes.
We also introduce rélevé in the cou-de-pied position, a fundamental skill that prepares the feet for more advanced one-legged work like pirouettes and developpés. Throughout the lesson, we practice a series of exercises at the barre, including controlled pliés, sous-sus transitions, and passé changes. You will learn the importance of the flexing action required to initiate a clean descent from sous-sus, ensuring every movement is deliberate, safe, and artistically sound.
The class concludes with a dedicated stretching segment focused on the calves and Achilles tendons. This is essential for maintaining the flexibility needed for a deep demi-plié, which acts as the shock absorber for all ballet movements, and for preventing common pointe-related injuries. Join the Broche Ballet community as we master these complex footwork transitions.
Whether you are refining your alignment or focusing purely on foot strength, this class provides the technical breakdown necessary for every beginner pointe student. Remember, proper turnout and core engagement remain the pillars of your practice. Let’s step up onto our boxes with confidence and continue building a strong, beautiful foundation for your ballet journey.
