About This Video
Welcome to Week 9 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. This session marks a significant milestone in your journey as we delve deeper into the nuances of foot articulation and ankle stability. Building upon the foundations established in earlier weeks, this class focuses on two pivotal movements: the "scoop" sous-sus and the introduction of relevé au cou-de-pied.
One of the most common challenges for beginner pointe students is coming down from a sous-sus with control and grace. In this lesson, we break down the scooping technique. Rather than simply dropping off the boxes, we practice pulling the toes out from underneath the body using the shin muscles.
This action ensures a smooth transition and maintains the integrity of your leg line. We emphasize the importance of the big toe, teaching you how to push forward through the rise to prevent the ankles from sickling or rolling outward. Furthermore, we introduce relevé au cou-de-pied.
This exercise is essential for building the specific strength required for one-legged pointe work. We focus on precise toe placement and the alignment of the shin over the fourth toe. By centering your weight correctly, you ensure that the pressure is distributed safely across the platform of your pointe shoes.
Throughout the class, we revisit the mechanics of the demi-pointe and how it serves as a bridge to full pointe. You will engage in barre exercises designed to strengthen the calves, ankles, and intrinsic muscles of the feet. We also incorporate elements of frappé and stretching to ensure your muscles remain responsive and flexible.
At Broche Ballet, we believe that technical precision is the key to artistic expression. By mastering these foundational scoops and rises, you are preparing your body for more complex center work and future variations. Join us at the barre as we refine your technique and build the strength necessary for beautiful, stable pointe work.
