About This Video
Take your ballet technique to the next level with this 'Center Barre Extravaganza' from Broche Ballet. In this intensive 41-minute advanced practice, we strip away the support of the physical barre to fundamentally challenge your balance, core stability, and weight placement. Dancing in the center requires a deeper level of muscular engagement and an acute awareness of your center of gravity that can sometimes be neglected when holding onto a barre.
Throughout this comprehensive class, you will work through a rigorous series of exercises typically performed at the barre, now expertly adapted for the center floor. We begin with fluid combinations focusing on tendu and plié, ensuring your foundational alignment is secure before moving into more complex, weight-shifting movements. You will practice the développé, focusing on the slow, controlled unfolding of the leg while maintaining a rock-solid standing side and graceful port de bras.
The class progresses into intricate sequences involving fondu, where you will master the 'melting' quality of the movement while balancing on one leg. This is an essential skill for developing the strength required for adagio work. A significant portion of the session is dedicated to the grand battement.
You will execute powerful, controlled kicks to the front and back, incorporating relevés and passé changes to rigorously test your equilibrium. We also explore movements like coup de pied and cambré, emphasizing the essential connection between the upper body's expression and the lower body's stability. By the end of this session, you will have a much more refined understanding of how to maintain your 'box'—the alignment of shoulders and hips—and support your extensions without relying on external support.
This class is perfect for the dedicated dancer at Broche Ballet who wants to translate their barre strength into fluid, confident center-floor excellence. Whether you are preparing for performance or simply looking to harden your technical core, this 'barre-less' barre will provide the challenge you need.
