About This Video
Achieving beautiful turnout is a lifelong pursuit in ballet, but maintaining that rotation while en pointe requires a heightened level of strength and awareness. This session, titled "Fabulous 15," provides an intensive, nonstop 15-minute workout specifically designed to help you master your turnout while wearing pointe shoes. At Broche Ballet, we understand that pointework is about more than just standing on your toes; it is about the integrity of your alignment from the hip down to the tips of your shoes.
In this follow-along practice, you will be guided through a series of rigorous drills that target the rotators and the specific mechanics of the foot. We begin with a focus on the heel-forward position, a critical element in preventing the foot from "sickling" or losing its turnout during a relevé. You will practice transitioning through positions such as passé and sus-sous, with a constant emphasis on keeping the hips open and the inner thighs engaged.
The lesson also explores the "wing range"—the ability to find that extra bit of rotation and stretch out over the box of the shoe. By practicing these movements in a nonstop format, you will build the necessary endurance and muscle memory to maintain proper form during longer variations. We also incorporate demi-plié exercises en pointe to ensure that your turnout remains consistent even as you bend and transition between movements.
Whether you are looking to improve your stability for center work or simply want to refine your technique at the barre, these drills offer a comprehensive way to strengthen your lower body. Regular practice of these turnout-focused exercises will help you achieve a more professional line and provide the structural support needed to dance safely and confidently en pointe. Join us to elevate your pointework to the next level.
