About This Video
Join Broche Ballet for a rigorous and rewarding intermediate pointe class designed to take your technique from the barre to the center of the room. This session is split into a focused 10-minute barre warm-up followed by 20 minutes of comprehensive center work. Our goal is to bridge the gap between supported stability and independent artistry, helping you find your balance and confidence en pointe.
We begin at the barre, where we focus on the fundamental mechanics required for successful center work. You will work on properly engaging your core and pushing through your hips to ensure you are fully over your toes in every relevé. This foundation is crucial as we transition to more complex movements without the support of the barre.
In the center portion of the class, we dive into a variety of exercises aimed at improving your passé and pirouette technique. You will learn the importance of commitment—fully stepping onto the foot and maintaining turnout throughout the turn. We also introduce dynamic bourrée and tombé combinations. The instructor provides specific cues, such as "sliding past the toe" to achieve a graceful tombé, and "boxing through" a jeté to ensure the toe is fully pointed even in quick transitions.
The class also covers piqué sous-tenu and various sous-tenu executions. These movements are essential for fluid transitions across the floor. Throughout the lesson, you are encouraged to push your limits and try new sequences, even if they feel challenging. We prioritize execution and proper alignment over perfection, fostering an environment where you can grow as a dancer. By the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how to maintain your center of gravity while dancing en pointe. Finish the practice with a traditional révérence to celebrate your progress.
