About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s intermediate pointe center practice. This 13-minute session is designed for dancers ready to take their technique away from the barre and into the middle of the floor. Center work en pointe is a significant milestone that demands exceptional core strength, precise weight placement, and a keen sense of balance.
In this class, our expert instructor guides you through a series of exercises including tendu, fondu, and piqué sous-sus to build that necessary stability. A major focus of this lesson is the mechanics of weight distribution. We specifically address the common mistake of letting the back fall behind the vertical line during a fondu from a sous-sus.
By learning to keep your weight forward over the standing leg, you can execute smooth transitions without needing to drop your heel or lose your balance. This alignment is crucial not only for stationary positions but also for dynamic movements like the pas de bourrée and the balancé. Turning en pointe requires both courage and technique.
We break down the preparation and execution of pirouettes and relevé turns, emphasizing the importance of feeling the floor through the demi-pointe of the standing leg before rising. You will practice maintaining a strong passé position to ensure your turns are centered and controlled. To wrap up the session, we perform a fun and fluid révérence.
This portion of the class focuses on artistry and port de bras coordination. The goal is to make the movements of the legs and arms appear as a single, fluid wave. At Broche Ballet, we encourage you to focus on the process; while these movements are complex, consistent practice will lead to the grace and fluidity seen in professional dancers.
Whether you are working on your échappé or refining your sous-sus, this video offers the technical insights required to progress in your ballet journey.
