About This Video
Transitioning from two hands on the barre to one is a pivotal milestone in any dancer's pointe journey. In this 27-minute class with Broche Ballet, we focus on 'Venturing Off the Barre,' a lesson specifically crafted to bridge the gap between initial pointe work and the eventual goal of center practice. By introducing single-hand support, you will begin to find your own center of gravity, relying less on the stability of the barre and more on your internal alignment.
The class begins with a comprehensive review of posture and alignment, ensuring that your foundation is secure before we begin our exercises. We move into fundamental movements such as dégagé devant and dégagé derrière, combined with coup de pied work. These exercises are designed to challenge your balance while requiring a quick and precise weight transfer—a skill essential for fluid movement en pointe.
A significant portion of the session is dedicated to mastering the bourrée. You will practice bourrée movements in place, focusing on the intricate shifting of weight from one foot to the other. The instructor emphasizes keeping the knees straight and maintaining a tall, lifted posture throughout.
By starting at a controlled pace and gradually increasing speed, you will build the muscle memory and coordination needed for seamless transitions. Throughout the class, we incorporate port de bras and demi-seconde arm positions to further challenge your equilibrium. You will also explore diagonal transitions and quasi positions, which prepare you for the spatial awareness required in advanced ballet choreography.
By the end of this session, you will feel more grounded and confident in your ability to maintain control and balance with minimal support. Join Broche Ballet today and take the next step in your pointe training.
