About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s intensive center practice focused on the core components of stability: balance and upper body control. For adult dancers, maintaining a strong, centered presence in the middle of the floor is often more challenging than at the barre. This session is specifically designed to bridge that gap by isolating the movements of the spine and torso that dictate our equilibrium.
Throughout this class, we delve into the mechanics of the upper back and spine. You will learn how to properly execute a cambré, focusing on rounding the upper back forward and up without collapsing the chest or losing the alignment of your arms. By understanding how to arch and twist the torso while keeping the hips perfectly square, you develop the muscular memory necessary to prevent falling out of complex movements like pirouettes or sustained balances en pointe.
One unique aspect of this training is its focus on adult-specific needs. While children often develop balance intuitively through play, adult dancers must consciously reconstruct these neural pathways. We practice specific twisting exercises that isolate the ribcage from the pelvis, a skill that is vital for maintaining a clean line and preventing unnecessary wobbling during transitions.
We also address the importance of recovery. After a rigorous series of balancing exercises, it is essential to release tension in the lower body. We include techniques to shake out the legs and reset the muscles, ensuring that your practice remains injury-free and effective.
Whether you are working toward your first pair of pointe shoes or looking to refine your center work for more advanced choreography, this class provides the foundational strength and body awareness needed to dance with confidence and grace. Join us at Broche Ballet to transform your technique from the inside out and find your perfect center.
