About This Video
Welcome to a restorative and intentional practice at Broche Ballet. This 38-minute session is specifically curated for dancers who want to delve into the nuances of technique without the physical demand of relevé or demi-pointe. By keeping the heels grounded, you can direct your full attention toward the 'juicy' quality of your movements, finding maximum length through your limbs and a deeper connection to your core.
The class begins with a comprehensive barre sequence, starting with demi plié and grand plié combined with expressive cambré. These exercises are designed to open the hips and increase spinal flexibility while maintaining a strong, stable base. As we transition into tendu and dégagé, we introduce a 'flex and point' method. This technique is a game-changer for dancers struggling to fully straighten their knees; by flexing the foot before the point, you will learn to engage the quadriceps and find a truly lengthened line.
Artistry takes center stage during the adagio portion of the class. Set to the hauntingly beautiful scores of Giselle and Swan Lake, you are encouraged to find your own voice within the choreography. We practice ronds de jambe for hip mobility, as well as enveloppé and coup de pied to sharpen your precision. The instructor emphasizes soft, breathing port de bras, ensuring that your upper body remains fluid even as your legs work with strength. We also incorporate movements like pas de cheval and fondu to build control without leaving the floor.
This low-impact class is an excellent choice for those recovering from injury, dancers who have spent a long day training en pointe, or anyone who simply wants to slow down and perfect their alignment. You will explore the height of your développé and the grace of your movement, all while focusing on the subtle details that make ballet so captivating. Join us for this slow and gentle session to refine your technique and leave the barre feeling lengthened, strengthened, and artistically fulfilled.
