About This Video
Transitioning from soft shoes to pointe shoes is a monumental milestone for any ballet student. At Broche Ballet, we understand that this transition requires more than just enthusiasm; it requires a foundation of strength and precise alignment. In this "Pointe Basics" barre session, we focus intensely on securing the ankles to ensure a safe and confident journey as you move from beginner to intermediate levels.
This 30-minute class is designed to slow down the technical elements of pointe work. We begin at the barre, establishing a solid base of support. One of the core focuses of this lesson is maintaining proper stability and alignment while en pointe.
Misalignment can lead to strain, so we emphasize the importance of the ankle's shape. You will learn how to ensure your toes are fully pointed in the final position while spiraling the heel forward. This specific action prevents the common mistake of the heel falling backward, which can lead to "sickling" and potential injury.
We also incorporate specific stretches designed for the pointe dancer. The swivel stretch is a key component of this class, helping to improve the flexibility of the top of the foot and the outside of the ankle. Along with plié and temps lié exercises, these movements help create a more fluid transition between positions.
By focusing on the outside of the calf and the ankle, we help you maintain the flexibility necessary for a high relevé. Whether you are just starting your pointe journey or are looking to revisit your foundations to fix recurring stability issues, this class offers the technical breakdown you need. Join us at Broche Ballet to build the secure ankles and confidence required to excel in your intermediate pointe work.
