Throughout the class, we revisit fundamental exercises like plié, tendu, and fondu, but with a specific focus on the mechanics of the foot. You will learn to use the floor as a springboard, finding the 'big circle of energy' required for powerful grands battements and fluid promenades. By paying close attention to the foot's engagement, you’ll discover how to make even the most demanding combinations look autonomous and graceful.
One of the key themes of this Speed Barre is the standing hip lift. Julie introduces the imagery of a hot air balloon to help you visualize weightlessness. By lifting out of the standing hip, even by a mere quarter inch, you create space for the working leg to move freely, improving your balance in arabesque and stability during relevé.
This subtle shift in focus can transform your alignment, making your center work feel lighter and more controlled. Despite the faster pace and shorter explanations, this class covers a comprehensive range of movements, including développé and pas de bourrée. It is an excellent practice for intermediate to advanced dancers who wish to maintain their strength and ballet brain on busy days.
