About This Video
Build the foundation for strong, beautiful footwork with this targeted Broche Ballet class. Whether you are preparing for your first pair of pointe shoes or simply want to improve your stability and line in flat shoes, this standing pre-pointe session focuses on the mechanics of a higher demi-pointe and greater foot articulation. We begin in first position, emphasizing the importance of equal weight distribution across the bunion joint and arches to prevent rolling and ensure a secure base of support.
Throughout the class, we dive into a series of relevés designed to activate the inner thighs and glutes, which are essential for maintaining turnout and control. You will learn to navigate the 'up and over' movement, engaging the toes and ensuring the ankles stay aligned. We also incorporate ton lié and tendu exercises to practice the delicate art of articulation—pushing through the floor with the toes and pulling back with the toenails to create a seamless transition between positions.
Special attention is given to turnout and hip engagement. By flexing the back foot and driving the inside of the ankle forward, you will learn to activate the muscles behind the glutes to hold your rotation during difficult weight shifts. We also explore exercises in second position to further challenge your control. By focusing on these granular details, you will develop the strength and flexibility needed for advanced footwork and the eventual transition to dancing en pointe. This 10-minute routine is perfect for a daily warm-up or as a supplement to your regular ballet training.
