About This Video
Are you looking to enhance your ballet technique and achieve a more impressive demi pointe? This 10-minute Standing Pre-pointe class from Broche Ballet is specifically designed to help dancers improve their ankle strength, flexibility, and overall stability. Whether you are preparing for future pointe work or simply want to feel more secure in your relevé, these exercises provide the foundation you need.
During this session, we dive deep into the mechanics of the foot and ankle. We begin with foundational movements in first position, focusing on the relationship between a deep demi plié and a powerful relevé. A key component of a high demi pointe is maintaining proper alignment; we emphasize keeping the ankles strong and avoiding 'rolling' or 'sickling,' ensuring that your weight is distributed correctly across the toes.
By focusing on the engagement of the intrinsic muscles, you will learn to lift away from the floor rather than just pushing into it. One of the unique aspects of this class is the focus on 'doming' and arch engagement. By learning to isolate the muscles of the foot, you will develop the strength required to pull the floor towards your heels and lift your arches.
We also incorporate specific stretches for the calves and toes, ensuring that your joints remain supple and ready for the demands of ballet technique. Exercises such as flexing one foot while the other remains en pointe help to isolate muscle groups and improve individual foot articulation and control. Balance and control are at the heart of every ballet movement.
Throughout the class, we practice maintaining stability without relying solely on the barre. By engaging your core and focusing on turnout, you will find that your demi pointe height improves naturally alongside your overall technique. This class is an essential addition to your daily training routine, offering practical tools to build the strength every dancer needs for advanced work.
