About This Video
Developing a strong sense of balance is one of the most challenging aspects of ballet, especially when transitioning from the barre to the center. This Broche Ballet follow-along class is specifically designed to address those challenges by slowing everything down. By focusing on a "super slow" tempo, you allow your body the time it needs to find correct alignment, engage the right muscles, and build the mental confidence necessary for fluid, unsupported movement.
The session begins with fundamental pliés and intentional port de bras. This slow start ensures your muscles are warmed up and your mind is tuned into your center of gravity. We then move into a series of tendus and dégagés, where we focus on the articulate brush through the first position.
A key technical focus here is the Front Back Action (FBA), which encourages you to press the hip forward and maintain a square pelvis even as the leg moves through various directions. As we progress to more complex movements like the arabesque and grand rond de jambe, the emphasis remains on stability. You will learn to keep the leg straight when lifting into a retiré and use your glutes to control the rise and fall of your movements.
We also explore cou-de-pied transitions, which are essential for developing the intricate footwork needed for advanced allegro and pirouette sequences. Throughout the 13-minute class, we pay close attention to the details that often get lost in faster combinations: keeping the shoulder blades back, ensuring the knees press back in turnout, and maintaining a tight, controlled port de bras. By the time you reach the final finishing pose, you will feel more grounded and poised.
This class is an excellent tool for dancers who want to move beyond just finishing the steps and start mastering the artistry and strength of professional center work.
