About This Video
Welcome to your comprehensive center practice session with Broche Ballet! Transitioning from the barre to the center is one of the most exciting and challenging milestones for any adult dancer. This class focuses on building the foundational strength and coordination needed to move gracefully through the room without the support of the barre.
We begin our session by focusing on the upper body with a detailed port de bras combination. You will learn how to integrate the arms with a demi-plié and how to use an allongé to add breath and length to your movements. Proper coordination between the eyes, arms, and legs is key to achieving that classic ballet aesthetic.
From there, we move into more complex legwork, incorporating elements like the rond de jambe and cou-de-pied to challenge your stability. The heart of the class features an adagio sequence designed to improve your balance and control. We will practice the fondu to build the necessary strength for sustained extensions and smooth transitions.
Following the adagio, we pick up the tempo with a waltz combination. This allows you to explore traveling steps and rhythmic musicality, which are essential for developing a sense of artistry in your dancing. To conclude our practice, we dedicate time to the traditional révérence.
Many beginners are unsure of the etiquette involved in finishing a class, so we provide step-by-step instructions on how to execute a proper curtsy or bow. We will cover the specific mechanics—stepping out, opening the leg, and crossing it behind—with an emphasis on closing the foot in third position rather than fifth, as is traditional for this level. Whether you are practicing in a home studio or preparing for a live class, this well-rounded center session will help you feel more confident and poised in your ballet journey.
