About This Video
Welcome to Class 11 of the Broche Ballet 16-Week Beginner Pointe Program. In this 60-minute session, we transition from stationary foundational work toward more dynamic movements, focusing specifically on the introduction of the échappé. As we move further into the program, the emphasis shifts toward building the specialized strength required to maintain proper alignment while moving between positions en pointe.
We begin the session with a dedicated focus on the importance of staying upright. A common challenge for dancers beginning their pointe work is maintaining verticality during port de bras. This class challenges you to use your core strength to stay lifted and back during the rise portion of your combinations, particularly during the transitions into relevé in coupé.
By focusing on your center, you ensure that your weight is distributed correctly over the platforms of your pointe shoes, reducing the risk of injury and increasing stability. Our barre work includes targeted fondu exercises designed to develop power in the standing leg. This strength is crucial for launching into bourrées and executing crisp, controlled movements.
We also review and refine essential steps such as the tendu, tombé, and chassé, integrating them into combinations that test your coordination and muscle memory. The highlight of today’s lesson is the introduction of the échappé. We break down the mechanics of this 'escaping' movement, ensuring that the ankles are supported and the feet move simultaneously to the desired position.
Throughout the hour, we will put together all learned combinations, including sous-sous and various transitions, to see how much progress you have made since Week 1. At Broche Ballet, we are thrilled to support your growth. Please ensure you have approval from a ballet teacher before starting pointe work to ensure your safety and readiness for these exercises.
