About This Video
Welcome to Class #11 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe 16-week program. As we move into the latter half of this cohort, we shift our focus from foundational stability to dynamic movement. This 30-minute session is designed to help you transition smoothly through positions while maintaining the integrity of your alignment and turnout.
The primary focus of today’s class is the échappé, an "escaping" movement where the feet travel from a closed position to an open position, typically second. Mastering the échappé is a milestone in any dancer’s pointe journey, as it requires a blend of power, precise foot placement, and unwavering control. We break down the mechanics of the movement and the essential spring needed to reach the tips of your pointe shoe boxes simultaneously.
In addition to the échappé, we delve into the nuances of the plié en pointe. Many beginners struggle with maintaining turnout and ankle stability while bending the knees on top of the box. Our instructor provides detailed cues to help you keep your ankles aligned and your weight centered, ensuring you build the necessary strength without compromising safety.
Throughout the class, we revisit essential steps like sous-sus, tendu, and pas de bourrée to ensure your transitions are fluid. We also incorporate specific exercises for the Achilles and foot muscles, using both slow and quick flexes to develop the fast-twitch fibers required for more advanced work. Safety is paramount at Broche Ballet.
We conclude the session with a series of targeted stretches designed to release tension in the calves and improve overall flexibility. Whether you are working toward your first performance or simply refining your technique, this class provides the technical breakdown you need to feel confident en pointe.
