About This Video
Welcome to an intensive session at Broche Ballet, where we take traditional barre concepts into the center to challenge your core stability and artistic expression. This 42-minute advanced center barre class is specifically designed for dancers who are ready to push their technical boundaries and refine their center work. We begin by focusing on the essential relationship between a strong, quiet upper body and the dynamic, fluid movements of the lower body.
Finding this balance is crucial for advanced dancers as they move away from the support of the barre and rely on their own internal alignment. The class structure emphasizes a center barre plan, allowing you to find your own vertical axis. You will work through a series of complex combinations, including detailed adagio work that focuses on balancing and promenades.
Maintaining control during these slow, sustained movements is key to developing the strength needed for more explosive allegro steps later in a full class. We focus on the precision of the passé and the extension of the leg, ensuring that every movement is intentional and technically sound. As the class progresses, we shift focus to fast feet and coordination.
You will practice the precision of petit pas de bourrée, tombé, and pas de cheval. These movements require a high degree of articulation in the feet and a keen sense of timing. We also dive into pirouette preparation and execution, integrating transitions like the chassé and plié to move seamlessly through the space.
The instructor provides helpful tips on timing when executing turns, helping you stay over your supporting leg. One of the highlights of this session is our exploration of en face to fondu transitions. By mastering the melting quality of the fondu, you gain better control over your landings and transitions, which is crucial for professional-level ballet performance.
We conclude the class with waltzing combinations and fun, expressive sequences that allow you to apply everything you’ve practiced in a more artistic, flowing context.
