About This Video
Join Broche Ballet for an invigorating and technical all-level ballet barre class designed to challenge your stamina and refine your form. In this 44-minute session, we dive deep into the essential movements that build a dancer’s foundation, focusing specifically on control, alignment, and the fluid strength required for professional-level execution. We begin with a focus on core engagement, the powerhouse of all ballet movement.
You will learn how to stabilize your torso to allow for greater freedom in the limbs. A significant portion of the class is dedicated to the fondu. The ballet fondu requires a melting quality that tests your balance and leg strength.
Our instructor provides detailed cues on opening the standing knee toward the barre and maintaining a strong, stable arm placement—often referred to as the shelf—to support your port de bras. As we progress to more dynamic movements, we explore the grand battement. You will learn how to execute these large throws with a flying sensation while maintaining a long, supported line.
The lesson emphasizes the importance of using floor friction to maintain control during the descent, ensuring that every movement is as intentional as it is powerful. Whether you are working en croix or focusing on specific leg heights, the emphasis remains on proper posture and a tall, lifted spine. Throughout the class, you will receive encouraging feedback on your transitions and lean movements, incorporating breath to add artistry to your technical work.
By the end of this session, you will have a deeper understanding of how to push back through the standing leg, engage your turnout from the hip, and maintain a calm, focused upper body even during the most strenuous exercises.
