About This Video
Welcome to an intentional All-Level Ballet Barre session at Broche Ballet, designed to refine your technique and build the foundational strength necessary for classical dance. This class is perfect for dancers who want a thorough, structured practice that emphasizes the core principles of ballet: alignment, turnout, and fluidity of movement. Throughout the 45-minute session, we move through a complete sequence of exercises, beginning with the basics and progressing into more complex coordination.
A primary focus of this class is the fondu. Often confused with the culinary 'fondue,' the balletic fondu is a 'melting' movement that requires tremendous control. You will learn to coordinate the bending and stretching of both legs simultaneously, building the eccentric strength required for powerful jumps and soft landings later in your training. We also dive deep into the mechanics of the tendu and dégagé, ensuring that every movement originates from the floor with a strong, articulate foot.
Alignment is key to preventing injury and achieving the classic ballet aesthetic. We emphasize the engagement of the inner thighs to maintain proper turnout from the hips rather than the knees. This focus carries through into our balance work, where we practice single-leg relevé. By facing the barre and eventually testing your balance without support, you will find your vertical axis and strengthen your ankles for center work.
To wrap up the session, we incorporate dynamic leg swings. These are essential for loosening the hip joints and finding a sense of freedom in the legs after the controlled work of the barre. By focusing on specific tempos and rhythms, such as our 7-repeat swing sequence, you will develop a more musical and responsive body. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, this Broche Ballet class provides the technical review and physical challenge needed to elevate your artistry. Grab your barre and let’s begin.
