About This Video
Welcome to a comprehensive, 60-minute all-level barre practice at Broche Ballet, led by instructor Julie. This class is designed to provide a solid foundation for beginners while offering the necessary refinement and challenge for more experienced dancers. Whether you are practicing in a studio or from the comfort of your home, this session focuses on the essential building blocks of ballet technique, emphasizing control, alignment, and musicality.
We begin our practice with intentional breathwork—four breaths in and eight out—to center the body and prepare the mind for focused movement. From there, we transition into a thorough barre sequence. You will progress through fundamental exercises including plié, tendu, and dégagé, moving into more complex combinations like fondu and développé.
A key focus of this class is the melting quality of the fondu, where you will practice the coordination of the plié and the extension of the leg, ensuring your heels circle forward and in to maintain proper turnout. As we move into the développé portion, Julie emphasizes the importance of keeping the knee back as long as possible to achieve a high, controlled extension. You will also explore the enveloppé and the graceful attitude pose, practicing the necessary swivel and weight placement to transition smoothly between positions.
The session culminates in grand battement, where you will find your power through controlled kicks and shifts of weight in the center. Throughout the class, Julie provides detailed technical corrections and feedback, helping you understand the mechanics behind every movement. By focusing on these details—such as the transition into a sus-sous or the alignment of the hips in attitude—you will build the functional strength and muscle memory required for more advanced ballet work.
