About This Video
In this focused 11-minute class, Broche Ballet guides you through a series of rigorous center exercises designed to decouple your balance from your visual environment. Balancing is often a visual task, but true ballet mastery requires high-level proprioception—the body's ability to sense its position in space without relying solely on sight. By introducing variables like closed eyes, head movements, and shifting arm positions, you will force your vestibular system and stabilizing muscles to work harder than ever before.
The session begins with fundamental balancing drills on one leg. You will explore various arm configurations, including the cactus position, to see how shifting your center of gravity affects your stability. We then progress to rotating and twisting the torso while maintaining a solid base.
These drills are essential for dancers who want to feel more secure during turns and large movements across the floor. A key component of this class is the transition between fondu and arabesque. We focus on keeping the hips level while the working leg is turned out, ensuring proper alignment even as you challenge your stability by closing your eyes.
We then move into coupé transitions, emphasizing the melting quality of the fondu to maintain a fluid yet strong center. Finally, we tackle sous-sus and demi-pointe work. Standing in a tight sous-sus, you will perform head movements—looking right, left, and creating a rainbow arc with your gaze.
These shifts in focal points are among the hardest aspects of center work, and mastering them here will translate directly into more confident pirouettes and adage. Whether you are training for performance or personal growth, these drills provide the building blocks for a professional-level sense of balance and coordination. Join us on the floor to elevate your technique and find your true center.
