About This Video
Achieving a rock-solid center is one of the most challenging aspects of ballet training. In this specialized session with Broche Ballet, we dive deep into the world of proprioception—the body's ability to sense its position in space. By stripping away visual reliance, you will learn to trust your inner sense of alignment and engage the deep stabilizer muscles necessary for effortless movement.
We begin with foundational drills in first position, holding the balance for 16 counts with eyes closed. This exercise is designed to highlight even the slightest shifts in weight, forcing you to find your true center. You will explore how to maintain your turnout and posture without the crutch of a mirror.
Moving into second position, we continue to challenge your stability while holding the arms in a strong second position, ensuring that your energy radiates through the fingertips without compromising the core. The class transitions into dynamic movements including tendu and tombé sequences. These exercises are crucial for understanding weight transfer.
You will practice the temps lié to smoothly shift from one foot to another, maintaining a continuous flow of movement while staying grounded. We also incorporate cambré to test your balance while the upper body moves off-axis. Throughout the drills, the instructor emphasizes the importance of proper breathing and core engagement.
By focusing on the breath, you can maintain calmness even when the body feels unstable. Consistent practice of these drills helps build the muscle memory required for advanced work like pirouettes and grand allegro. Whether you are working on your relevé or simply looking to feel more secure in the center, these proprioception exercises offer a path to greater confidence and grace.
