About This Video
Balance is the cornerstone of every elegant movement in ballet, from a simple tendu to the most complex pirouette. In this focused 9-minute class with Broche Ballet, we dive deep into the mechanics of stability through center-floor proprioception drills. This session is specifically designed to challenge your body's internal awareness, helping you find your center without the aid of the barre.
We begin with foundational parallel positions, using hands on the waist to isolate the core and glutes. By lifting one leg and exploring weight shifts while your eyes are closed, you will learn to trust your internal sensations rather than relying solely on visual cues. This is a vital skill for any dancer looking to improve their consistency in center work.
As the class progresses, we transition into traditional ballet positions including coup-de-pied and retiré. You will practice tendu side and weight placement drills that emphasize keeping the heels forward and maintaining a strong standing side glute. A unique highlight of this session is the focus on visual distractions; we practice looking right, left, up, and down on the beat while maintaining a relevé or a retiré.
These exercises are specifically tailored to help dancers improve their spotting and stability during turns. By intentionally throwing off your visual equilibrium, you force your core and ankles to work harder, building the micro-strength necessary for effortless-looking balances. Whether you are struggling with falling out of turns or simply want to feel more grounded in your first and second positions, these drills provide the technical framework needed for advancement.
Join us at Broche Ballet to refine your technique and build the confidence to stand tall in the center.
