About This Video
Welcome to a specialized training session at Broche Ballet. This 38-minute class is dedicated to mastering the barre while wearing pointe shoes. Transitioning your standard barre work to pointe requires a unique blend of strength, flexibility, and precise articulation. Throughout this class, we dive deep into the mechanics of the foot. Unlike soft shoes, pointe shoes require you to intentionally 'work the shoe'—scooping through the metatarsals and articulating every muscle to achieve a professional line.
The class follows a traditional structure designed to safely prepare your feet for the rigors of pointe work. We begin with grounded pliés to warm up the ankles and knees, followed by precise tendus and dégagés to build speed and muscular memory. As we move into more complex movements like the développé and rond de jambe, the focus remains on maintaining turnout and stability while the weight shifts across the platform of the shoe. You will learn the correct way to utilize the shank of your shoe for support during temps lié and other transitional movements.
A key highlight of this practice is the emphasis on balance and core control. We move through deep cambré and sustained positions, encouraging you to find your center and eventually finish combinations without relying on the barre for support. This builds the foundational stability needed for advanced center work. By the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of how to use your shoes as a tool for expression rather than just a platform for standing. Join us at Broche Ballet and transform your articulation from the ground up.
