About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet's comprehensive beginner center practice. This 22-minute class is designed specifically for adult beginners transitioning from barre work to the freedom of the center floor. In this session, we focus on two essential movements that often challenge new dancers: the pas de basque and the pas de bourrée en tournant.
Our instructor breaks down the pas de basque into its core components—plié, tendu, rond de jambe en l'air, glissade, chassé, and cou-de-pied. By practicing these elements individually before combining them, you will build the muscle memory necessary for a smooth, fluid execution. We also dive deep into the mechanics of the pas de bourrée.
You will learn the importance of keeping the legs lengthened during transitions to maintain alignment and generate the necessary speed to travel across the floor gracefully. Beyond footwork, this class emphasizes the vital concept of centering. Developing an internal sense of when a pose is balanced versus when it feels off-center is a crucial skill for any dancer.
You will practice specific centering exercises that improve your overall control, stability, and spatial awareness. We also explore the ripple effect through the spine during stepping and sliding movements, ensuring your dance looks organic and effortless from head to toe. To round out your practice, we include a focused port de bras segment.
Soft, expressive arm movements are key to transforming technical steps into true artistry. We conclude the class with a formal reverence, teaching you to maintain a long spine and elevated posture as you finish your practice with grace. Whether you are practicing at home or preparing for studio classes, this session provides the technical foundation needed to progress in your ballet journey with confidence.
